Ghana to Commemorate World Interfaith Harmony Week for the First Time, Led by AcrossFaiths Foundation

Accra, 1st February 2025

For the first time, Ghana, under the leadership of the AcrossFaiths Foundation, joins the global community in commemorating the United Nations-declared World Interfaith Harmony Week.

As part of the commemoration, the Foundation is honored to host the Most Rev. Dr. Josam Kariuki, Arch Bishop of the Methodist Church in Kenya, as a special guest for a lineup of activities aimed at fostering interfaith dialogue, peace, and unity.

The event highlights include joint Christian and Muslim worship sessions in both a church and a mosque, promoting mutual respect and understanding between the two faith communities. Additionally, a symposium will be held for selected basic and secondary schools in Accra to engage young minds on the importance of interfaith harmony.

A significant part of the activities will be an “Interfaith Action Against Climate Change,” which will involve a symbolic tree-planting exercise to emphasize the role of faith communities in protecting the environment.

The President of AcrossFaiths Foundation, Rt. Rev. Emmanuel Borlabi Bortey, and the Vice President, Sariki Dr. Usiff Mandingo, are calling on all religious organizations, including traditional rulers, to join hands and participate actively in the event. “This initiative will go a long way in consolidating the existing peace and harmony in Ghana,” they emphasized.

AcrossFaiths Foundation believes that promoting interfaith cooperation is crucial for fostering a peaceful, just, and equitable society.
